ABIKÚ and ORÍ: Teaching given at the Ọdun Ori- Orí Festival by the Spirit Tata Abel, a Spiritual Emissary of Baba Oduduwa. The teaching that this spirit gives is directly received from Baba Oduduwa and are part of the Spiritual revelation of the Mysteries of the Yoruba Esoteric Òòşà/ Òrìşà Tradition and the Ifá Tradition.

Spirit Tata Abel: Abikú means children who are borne to die. In an esoteric way of understanding this are Spirits who are borne to sacrifice for the live of the mother. They can die before birth also in order to accomplish their mission. They can be born and die very soon afterwards, in months later or years later. Through their sacrifice or ẸBỌ they earn spiritual merit. Example: There is a woman that is pregnant, but she doesn’t know it. Example; There is a woman who is pregnant and does not know that she is pregnant and continues her normal life, she increases the chances of having an accidental abortion, and she comes and is consulted and through the Oracle, Ifá tells her that she is pregnant or that there is a situation that she must be careful. But Ifá already knows that this child is an Abikú spirit, Ifá will determine the ẸBỌ / Sacrifice that must be done to save both parties and be well (mother and child). Once the child is born, the ceremony of Orí is done and it is when he starts to "warm up", let's say it like that, that means, to start saying things to him or her (to annoy him), for what reason? To make that Abikú spirit avoid that path. Well, even if that being is born, the spirit continues being Abikú and he or she can die at 2, 3, 4, 5 months old, at a year, etc., and it is still Abikú. Then one annoys the Abikú / he is disturbed so that that child reacts, so that Orí reacts and then that is changed. When it is without consciousness it means that that creature was an Abikú, that’s the reason why that happens. When the Orí of Abikú dies, it returns to its spiritual origin and when is reborn again, that spirit becomes Abikú again. When it is an Orí Abikú, its essence will continue to be of an Abikú. This will continue like this until it is done the ẸBỌ / Sacrifice that that Spirit did not do in Heaven (Ọ̀RUN) and change that part with the ceremonies and cease to be an Abikú spirit. When the Spirit does Not do ẸBỌ / Sacrifice in Heaven (Ọ̀run), and when the spirit arrives on Earth the spirit has to do ẸBỌ with his own life. There is ORÍ and ORÍ ÍNU. Orí Ínu that has to do with his Spirit that is the Oath that you make in Heaven before coming here to Earth. Orí is the one who chooses you to complement or be part of that complement that is that oath that you make in Heaven. The two complement each other. They ask: So who chooses the mother? Spirit Tata Abel; Who chooses the mother is the "Orí Ínu", it is chosen by your spirit, your Free Will. A brother asks: If the mother rejects the baby and does not want the baby in the womb? Tata Abel: When that being is born, he or she rejects the mother, and sticks to those who want him or her. They ask; And in the old times that people had many children, and now people almost have no children in many parts of the modern world, that no longer want to have children? Tata Abel: That is because of a change in the global ORÍ-Consciousness of the human beings on the planet or in the areas that this occurs. Some time ago your collective ORI was ruled by a religious current, in America with the Catholic religion. Catholics said to people: "Do not use contraceptives because that is not from God, have all the children that God sends you." This created a demographic overpopulation. Within the Yorùbá cosmogony The fact that the Yorùbá follow a practice of Polygamy (marrying several wives) is for continuing the blood Lineage, formerly they could have up to 16 women as wives, (they have to be faithful to all of them). In those times ago that was because the children who were born did not last long. As they could have up to 16 wives, they left pregnant different wives to see which children were born and kept alive, that was a way to continue their family lineage. That is coupled with the religious question, what happens? That through Ifá certain rituals are determined to avoid the death of children, and the number of wives is lowered over time and more children survive. When the person has short life, one of the rituals that is done is to give Icon of ORÍ, within the ceremony prayers are made so that the ORÍ changes and makes that persona have a long life. The prayers that are made to Orí are like insults that are made for not wanting to live a long life, in order to stimulate ORÍ to live longer in this world.
